Week 6: Professional Standards and the Future
Victims’ rights have advanced significantly over the last many decades, but the journey is far from over. The ethical treatment and rights of victims remain important issues in the field of victimology. Many states have passed victims’ bill of rights statutes that seek to deliver victims fair treatment under the law. The provisions of the bills include being handled with fairness, dignity, and respect; being notified in a timely manner about judicial proceedings related to the crime; and protection from harassment, among several other rights. Week 6: Professional Expectations and the Future
Victims’ rights have come a long way in the previous few decades, but the trip is far from complete. The ethical treatment of victims and their rights remain critical topics in the subject of victimology. Many states have enacted victims’ bill of rights legislation to ensure that victims are treated fairly under the law. The legislation’ provisions include, among other things, being treated fairly, with decency, and respect; being notified in a timely manner about legal procedures linked to the offense; and protection from harassment. This week, you’ll look at how victims’ rights affect specific positions in the criminal justice system, as well as how that relationship may affect professional standards. Furthermore, you investigate how technology or media alters the environment.
