Grand Rounds Discussion
The primary diagnosis of the patient is lung cancer. The condition affects the respiratory system causing breathing difficulties. Treatment of the condition is vital to eliminate the risk of complications that can worsen breathing and increase the risk of death (Grieshober et al., 2020). Lung leads to blockage of the airways as a result of an overgrowth of cancer. Some of the symptoms include coughing and shortness of breath.
The differential diagnosis includes pulmonary embolism (PE), myocardial ischemia or dysfunction, and pneumonia. The conditions present symptoms similar to that of lung cancer. Practitioners have a responsibility to distinguish the difference between the symptoms (Xiaofeng et al., 2021). Accurate diagnosis is effective to improve the treatment and address the health condition of the patient. For instance, pneumonia leads to blockage of airways and breathing problems. Other symptoms include coughing and fatigue.
The treatment plan involves the use of medication and a change of lifestyle. For instance, the patient should adhere to the medication and chemotherapy sessions to eliminate the risk of adverse outcomes. Treatment involves educating a patient about the symptoms and when to seek emergency care (Yawn et al., 2021). Educating a patient will improve the response to the disease. Patient education will eliminate the stigma or fear of death.
The patient is in the moderate stage since the symptoms are not extremely severe. The moderate stage requires treatment since it can exacerbate adverse symptoms. Practitioners use medical procedures to address the symptoms depending on the severity of the condition. The reason why the patient is in the moderate stage is that the symptoms are not severe. The patient can still participate in daily activities. Severe conditions can undermine the ability to participate in daily activities or affect breathing completely.
